President of the Jamaica Manufactures Association (JMA), Omar Azan has called for more assistance from government and financial institutions for local manufacturers.
Mr. Azan said access to low cost loans is an important requirement if manufacturers are to maintain competitiveness.
However, it is important for government and the financial sector to develop a financial plan to assist manufacturers.
He said a proposed mutual guarantee scheme in 2006 by the former Finance Minister, Dr. Omar Davis is to be implemented.
Mr. Azan said the scheme was designed to broaden access to finances for small businesses.
