Bermuda’s Government has bowed to public pressure and switched the date of the country’s National Heroes\' Day from October to June.
This will fill a slot formerly held by the now abandoned Queen\'s Birthday holiday.
National Heroes\' Day was first observed on October 12 last year and was devoted to the life of Dame Lois Browne Evans, the first female Opposition Leader in the Commonwealth.
National Heroes\' Day will now be held on June 15, the date previously reserved for the Queen’s Birthday holiday that was discontinued after the 2008 observance.
Government\'s decision to cancel the June holiday had upset sailors who traditionally have used the day for comet races between Somerset and St George\'s.
