What is true transformation?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I feel compelled to respond to Martin Henry's column of August 7. Under the penis size vs development theme, I was reluctant to go there. However, I persevered and was rewarded with one of the best analyses of the real problems that beset our island nation and why all talk of any kind of independence is meaningless without the fundamental changes Mr Henry referred to.
The experts can analyse and research all they want, but the fundamental lack of principles and values is the main cause of our social, economic and psychological ills. Until we go through the radical transformation of ourselves, no amount of religion, politics or superstition can help us.
But where is this transformation to come from? Where can children and young people (our best hope), in general, learn these lessons, where can adults get the opportunities to unlearn so much that is wrong? From the schools? The churches? The politicians and social commentators or the media?
When we answer these questions and begin that journey, we may just be fortunate enough to see the benefits of genuine transformation and all the added value that comes with it.
