It stopped at Seaforth Square in St Thomas recently with Maggi soup and vegetable rice being sampled and nutritional tips for a healthy way of life being presented. As part of the instant lifestyle, a nice, warm cup of calming ginger tea, usually prepared by crushing a piece of fresh ginger and pouring hot water over it, has been replaced either by ginger teabags or powdered ginger.

I usually find ginger teabags lacking in flavour and a poor substitute for the real thing. But when I tried Salada's Jamaican Ginger Instant Tea, I thought it came very close. The product is an instant powdered tea mix, with sugar added. Just opening one of the packets, the unmistakably strong ginger smell hits you right in the nostrils. Once you prepare the mixture, the flavour certainly does not disappoint.

There are 10 sachets in each box, much less packets than what you'd get in a box of teabags, but I find that the great flavour overrides this. Oftentimes, I don't use the entire packet for a cup of tea, and the sachets allow for this because of the concentrated flavour, I simply add sugar to my taste.
