Beautiful skin is always in! Not only is it attractive and pleasing to the eyes, it definitely works wonders for one's self-confidence.
Everyone wants great skin and will go the extra mile to get products that will help alleviate or mitigate their current skin concerns.
But according to brand manager of Kirk Distributors, Tynielle Chambers, the problem is that sometimes consumers make uninformed purchases which can result in a unsatisfactory results or no results at all. She encourages persons that when purchasing products to keep in mind which ones cleanse, tone, moisturise and protect, and buy accordingly.
Age is also of great concern when selecting products. "We have categories: teenage skin is 12-18, young skin is 19-25 and transitional skin between 26 and 35. Over 35 is known as mature skin. As persons age they have different skin concerns."
Brands such as Clean & Clear are perfect for teenagers as they address their main concern, which is acne. "For our acne skincare products, one of the main ingredients is salicyclic acid, which penetrates the pores and cleanses it. This is very important because persons who have acne usually have oily skin which leads to a build-up and clogs pores. And blocked pores turn into pimples."
For persons with sensitive skin and acne, there are products that contain less concentration of salicyclic acid.
For adults with acne, Chambers recommends the Neutrogena brand. "We have the Acne Fresh and Deep Clean, which goes deep into the pores to get rid of dead cells."
There is no doubt that as persons age, their skin condition and concerns change. For mature skin the issues usually involve sun damage and wrinkles. "As persons age their skin loses its elasticity and collagen, and sun exposure is a cause."
One of the main ingredients in Neutrogena's ageless Intensive line is retinol which penetrates the top layer of the skin. This line, can be used as a preventative measure for younger skin types. "While our anti-wrinkle products in that line can be used to prevent lines, if persons already have, it can be used to minimise them," notes Chambers.
Bur regardless of age and skin concerns, it is highly recommended that sunblock be used every day to protect the skin. Chambers notes that the one selected should provide maximum protection against UVA and UVB rays.
