Council to get tough on operators
The St. Ann Parish Council said it would be clamping down on taxi and bus operators who refuse to use the transportation centres in the towns of St. Ann’s Bay, Brown’s Town and Ocho Rios.
Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Ivan Anderson said the operators’ refusal to use the transportation centres has resulted in traffic congestion in the towns and significant loss in revenue to the Council.
He said residents and business people have been complaining about the problems they are encountering.
Mayor Anderson disclosed that he intends to have new traffic rules enforced by the beginning of May.
The mayor said the Council is also planning to allow roadside parking for private and commercial vehicles in sections of Ocho Rios, St. Ann’s Bay and Brown’s Town next month.
This service will be at a cost of $50 per hour.
