The corruption trial of former Junior Energy Minister, Kern Spencer and his former Personal Assistant, Colleen Wright is expected to resume in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court today.

The former Junior Energy Minister and his Personal Assistant have been on trial since February 2008 for their alleged involvement in the controversial Cuban light bulb distribution programme.

The prosecution is expected to conclude its questioning of crown witness Rodney Chin.

The defense is expected to begin its cross examination of Chin.

Chin who is a former co-accused has testified that he was only a front man for Spencer.

He told the court that he met the accused in 2005 and agreed to set up companies.

The prosecution is claiming that Mr. Spencer used Mr. Chin to set up three companies to benefit from contracts under the light bulb programme.

Mr. Chin has testified that even though he had opened a bank account and signed cheques for one of the companies, he did not benefit from the proceeds.

When the matter was last before the court on November 17, the Director of Public Prosecution, Paula Llewellyn handed over to the defense recordings of conversations between Spencer and Rodney Chin.

The prosecution also provided the defense with additional statements from Chin and the policemen who did the recordings and the transcripts.
