OUR to hold consultations on NWC increase request

Published:Thursday | May 2, 2013 | 12:44 PM

The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is to begin public consultations on Monday on the National Water Commission’s request for a rate review.

The NWC has applied to the OUR for a 19 per cent increase in rates in addition to other adjustments.

The OUR says, as part of its deliberations, it will be seeking feedback from members of the public through town hall type meetings, which will take place across the island between May 6 and May 30.

The first consultation is being held in Portmore, St Catherine.

The OUR says the NWC will make presentations at these meetings, and field questions from members of the audience, on its application.

The OUR is also encouraging consumers to participate by emailing their comments to sharewithus@our.org.jm, or by sending letters to the Director of Consumer and Public Affairs at the OUR.

The NWC last received a 23 per cent increase in its rates in April 2008.
