Correctional officers return to work after salary protest
Jamaica's more than 2,000 correctional officers should be resuming their duties at this hour after this morning's protest over salary negotiations with Government.
The protest followed failed efforts with the Finance Ministry to settle on salary realignment issues.
Chairman of the Jamaica Federation of Correctional Officers, Arlington Turner, says at a meeting last Wednesday, his organisation rejected the latest salary proposal.
He says the federation had revised its proposal in light of the fiscal constraints but was told last night that the Minister with responsibility for the Public Service, Horace Dalley, is yet to look at the document.
Turner did not disclose the details of the revised proposal.
However, according to him, the correctional officers have proposed a salary range that should not have an adverse effect on the national Budget.
Meanwhil, Turner says the Labour Ministry could intervene in the situation.
