UPDATED: TAJ extends opening hours at customer care centre

With only three days to the March 15 tax filing deadline, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is providing even greater support.

The TAJ says its  Customer Care Centre is now operating extended hours - 8:30 am - 7:00 p.m each day this week March 11-15 to facilitate taxpayers who may need last minute assistance.

To facilitate smooth operations, the agency says additional staff has been deployed throughout tax offices to ensure that forms are properly completed and to direct taxpayers to the correct areas for filing their returns.

It says persons filing a “nil” return will be directed to specially assigned officers or a special line to submit their Return.  Alternately, persons may be advised to use the electronic drop boxes available in main Tax Offices to file a “nil” Return or if they are paying by cheque.

 In addition, extra cashiering stations will be opened at several tax offices, primarily to handle the large volumes of Returns normally submitted by Accounting Firms. 

Small business operators and self-employed individuals with an annual income of up to $5 million are reminded that they still have time to maximise on free support sessions being offered by the Tax Authority, by taking along their business income and expenditure statements, Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and a valid form of identification.

These free sessions are designed to assist taxpayers to file their returns on time while getting them registered to use its online services.

 Persons may visit the Income Tax Hub at www.jamaiacatax.gov.jm to view the schedule of the sessions and choose to visit any that is suitable for them.

Additionally, persons may utilise TAJ’s eFiling facilities at select tax offices to file their Returns online using its computers while getting support.
