Road users are being advised to exercise caution while the project is in progress and obey the instructions of posted warning signs.

The National Works Agency (NWA) has taken a decision to close the section of Portmore Drive in St Catherine where it is currently carrying out drainage work, as it says continuing to allow traffic on the road is impeding its progress.

The NWA says the closure will begin on Thursday at 8 a.m. and the roadway will remain closed for five days.

The closure, which will be between Miller Road and Miller Way, is to facilitate the replacement of a damaged drainage grating across the roadway. The roadway is scheduled to be reopened on Tuesday June 4.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the drainage improvement works commenced on Sunday and traffic had been restricted to one lane only.

He said that arrangement will now have to be changed, as having traffic on the roadway has impeded the progress of the works.

Motorists travelling on Portmore Drive, from the direction of George Lee Boulevard, can take the first right onto Miller Way, then left onto Miller Road, and continue onto Portmore Drive. This route can also be used from the other direction.

From the direction of Agusta Drive, motorists can also turn right onto Palmetto West, then left into Park Circle and right onto Kendal Avenue. Turn left then right onto Palmetto Way, continuing back to George Lee Boulevard.

Road users are being advised to exercise caution while the project is in progress and obey the instructions of posted warning signs.
