The South East Regional Health Authority is advising that parents have the ability to have extended visits, including overnight stays, with their children at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

The regional health authority says this is based on a clinical assessment of the child's needs.

"Our compassionate medical team will collaborate with you to ensure the best possible arrangements are made, considering your child's health and comfort," it said in a release today.

This comes amid recent public discussion, particularly by parents, who have been complaining on social media about not being able to stay with the children at Bustamante.

They argue that being present with their children is important to their health and well-being.

The regional authority says it recognises the challenges parents face and values the critical role they play in their child's recovery and comfort, noting that that is why it offers flexible visitation options at Bustamante.

Standard visiting hours are daily from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

For more information or to arrange an extended visit, persons can speak with a representative at the Patient Affairs Department at the hospital.

"Your presence is invaluable to us and to your child's healing journey, and we are here to fully support you.”
