Trelawny on track to meet property tax target
The Trelawny Municipal Corporation is expressing confidence it will be able to meet the property tax target of $378 million for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.
The target was set by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development.
Speaking with The Gleaner, Falmouth Mayor Collen Gager said the confidence that the parish will meet the target is based on last year's collection.
"Last year we collected $382 million and I feel good when I look at the present figure," he said.
Gager also pointed to ongoing housing developments and those slated to come on stream which will bring additional taxpayers.
"There is housing development at Coral Spring and Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) has had plans approved for the construction of 835 houses in the Parnassus area. That is an indication that more property owners will be paying taxes," he said.
Last year the mobile unit collected $80 million between March and April.
