The Port Authority of Jamaica is reporting that extended opening hours have been implemented across major port facilities as it deals with the rise in hurricane relief cargo, as well as the impending increase in cargo activity for the upcoming Christmas season.

The authority says it has collaborated with the Jamaica Customs Agency, Kingston Freeport Terminal Ltd, Kingston Wharves Limited, and other key port community stakeholders to ensure smooth port operations.

As part of these actions, the extended opening hours include longer weekly operations and Saturday operations.

The authority says the extended hours are intended to support recovery efforts following the recent hurricane and to reduce congestion during the peak season.

They will also serve to facilitate timely cargo clearance and delivery, and to ensure the continued stability and reliability of Jamaica’s supply chain.

The authority says details regarding specific port locations, new operating hours, and any special procedures will be communicated later today by the respective terminal operators.
