A 36-year-old chef has been charged following the discovery of a firearm and ammunition in a vehicle along Hanover Street in downtown Kingston last month.

Police say the seizure occurred on Monday, November 17, after officers signaled the vehicle to stop and the driver fled the scene.

Kingston Central Criminal Investigations Branch detectives later apprehended the man, identified as Dwayne Burke. He hails from Hanover Street, according to a police statement issued on Thursday.

During the search of the vehicle, police say they found a single-action Browning pistol and two 9mm cartridges inside a bag.

Burke has since been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
