Bog Walk Gorge still closed

A section of a GasPro truck that overturned yesterday can be seen in the Rio Cobre river in the vicinity of Flat Bridge in Bog Walk, St Catherine.

The Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine remains closed, after a trailer carrying liquid petroleum gas (LPG) overturned into the Rio Cobre yesterday morning.

The gorge will be closed until further notice to facilitate the removal of the truck.

According to the Bog Walk Police, about 2 a.m. yesterday, the vehicle was travelling along the Gorge when the driver encountered difficulties and crashed into the river.

There were no fatalities.

However, the driver of the vehicle was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital.

Teams from the National Environmental and Planning Agency (NEPA), the Jamaica Fire brigade, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), the Marine Police and the Traffic Police are presently conducting operations to remove the truck from the river.

Motorists are being asked to use alternate routes such as the Sligoville main road and the Barry main road until further notice.
