Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell says the application has already been approved by the Office of Utilities Regulation and the Spectrum Management Authority.

An application is now before Cabinet for the granting of a new cellular licence for the provision of mobile telecommunications services in Jamaica.

Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell says the application has already been approved by the Office of Utilities Regulation and the Spectrum Management Authority.

Paulwell says he's pleased with the process thus far as the granting of a new licence will broaden competition in the country’s telecommunications industry.

Currently, there are two major telecommunications players within the country.

The Technology Minister was speaking yesterday at the opening of the Energy Services Company at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.
