Big drug bust off Westmoreland coast, $720 million worth of cocaine seized
Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) is reporting that its Coast Guard this morning made a major drug bust at sea seizing $720 million (US$6 million) worth of cocaine.
According to the JDF, about 1 a.m a United States maritime patrol aircraft spotted a vessel suspected of illicit trafficking and contacted the army headquarters in Kingston.
The JDF Coast Guard was alerted and managed to intercept the suspected vessel in the vicinity of Belmont Beach, Westmoreland.
The JDF says in conjunction with the narcotics police they seized 36 bales of cocaine and held four men.
