A Portland man is now homeless after fire destroyed his one-bedroom board house at Richmond Hill (Bonnie view), Port Antonio a short while ago.

According to an eyewitness, fire was seen coming from the house about 12:35 p.m.

Firefighters reportedly responded quickly, however, upon their arrival, the house was already engulfed.

District officer at the Port Antonio fire station, Lloyd Johnson, said that when his team arrived all they could do was carry out cooling down operations.

Two fans and a bed were destroyed by the blaze, however, the owner of the house was not at home at the time of the fire.

Anthony Francis, a close friend of the owner of the house, appealed for help on his friend's behalf.

Francis said that neighbours love and respect the now homeless man.
