More courtrooms to get video link technology
Work is to start before the end of this fiscal year to retrofit 19 additional courtrooms with video link technology.
That's according to Justice Minister Delroy Chuck who says the technology has already been installed in three courtrooms at the Supreme Court, as well as the St Andrew and Montego Bay parish courts.
Video link technology will be used to allow witnesses to give testimony from a location outside the courtroom.
Chucks says this would provide witnesses with greater protection and save them the vagaries of attending court.
The justice minister says three mobile units, which are equipped to facilitate witnesses giving evidence remotely, have been acquired.
And he says the ministry is far advanced in procuring an additional 22 units, which are expected to arrive before the end of the fiscal year, and will be dispatched for use.
