RGD on a drive to re-register persons born out of wedlock
The Registrar General's Department (RGD) is now on a drive to have children who were born out of wedlock, but whose parents are now married, re-registered so that their birth certificates reflect the new status.
In a press release issued yesterday, the RGD urged parents who are now married but had their children before, to re-register the births of their children.
The agency advises that interested customers will be referred to the district or hospital in which the birth occurred for the necessary changes to be made.
After that the new birth certificate would reflect the updated marital status of the parents and show that the child was born in wedlock.
The RGD says the re-registration process is easy and is directing customers to its website where the necessary form can be downloaded.
It says forms can also be collected at any of its offices across the island.
