Returning residents, expatriates and other visitors to Jamaica will soon be able to bring their pets with them to the island.

Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Karl Samuda says this will be facilitated through the Animals Diseases (Importation) Control (Amendment) Regulations 2017, which will be gazetted by the end of the week.

The new regulation will facilitate the safe importation and exportation of dogs and cats between Jamaica and approved countries.

Samuda says it will also protect Jamaica against risks that may arise from exotic animal diseases.
