Patrick back at Waterhouse
Anthony Patrick is back at Waterhouse Football Club.
Patrick has returned as head coach of the Red Stripe Premier League Club following the resignation of Calvert Fitzgerald earlier this week.
Fitzgerald took over for the second stint as head coach in the premier league two months ago, but after a 4-0 whipping by Tivoli Gardens last Sunday at the Edward Seaga Stadium, he tendered his resignation to the club on Wednesday.
Waterhouse are in 11th position on four points from six games in the 12-team league having won only once losing four times and drawing the other encounter.
Patrick, who was coach of Waterhouse team up to last season, left the job because he took up a role as technical director at Dinthill Technical High School.
"Well, yes, I accepted the head coach position and Paul Young will be the technical director," Patrick told The Gleaner yesterday.
"Waterhouse will train in the mornings in order to facilitate my job at Dinthill,' he explained.
With the Waterhouse team in the relegation zone just ahead of newcomers UWI FC, Patrick is confident he can turn things around.
"When I took over two seasons ago, the team was in a similar situation, and I helped to turn the team around, so I can do that again and challenge for the championship," Patrick reasoned.
Fitzgerald, who was fired in 2006 and returned in the summer said the team was not getting the desired results.
"Football is a results driven sport and Waterhouse were not getting the desired results, and as head coach, I was responsible. I got the support of management and the team looked good in training, but was not delivering consistently in the matches.
"I though it was prudent to offer my resignation, so that the club could consider other options in order to correct the situation," Fitzgerald stated in a release from Waterhouse FC.
Meanwhile, Waterhouse FC president Fitzroy Vidal confirmed that Patrick is back at the club.
"Anthony Patrick is back as part of the recovery process," Vidal said.
Waterhouse will meet Cavalier SC in the Red Stripe Premier League round seven tomorrow at Waterhouse Stadium, starting at 4 p.m.
