Patois is best route to English

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I write to register my agreement with those who oppose the teaching of Jamaican in our schools.

We should continue to teach English but we must never rule out the proposal that, perhaps, the best approach to mastery of the queen's language by the greatest number of our people is through the use of the mother tongue of the majority.

Going from the known to the unknown is a tried and proven tool of pedagogy.
