War: The hunger for power!
Loading article...
In today’s world, news of tension and rivalry between nations is common. Countries compete for influence, power, and control. But if we pause for a moment and ask a simple question, What truly lies behind these tensions?, the answer often points to one basic human tendency: the urge to prove that we are more powerful than others. It begins at the individual level. In many homes, one partner tries to dominate the other. In society, the rich may look down upon the poor, the educated may feel superior to the illiterate, and the strong may attempt to overpower the weak. This constant effort to prove superiority creates invisible wars in relationships, communities, and eventually, between nations.
HIDDEN EMPTINESS BEHIND POWER
Why do people feel a need to dominate others?
Deep observations show that this hunger for power often comes from inner emptiness. When a person feels incomplete within, they try to fill that void by controlling people, positions, or possessions. External authority then becomes a substitute for inner stability.
Instead of helping those who are weaker, people sometimes push others down to feel higher. This reflects a lack of inner richness. When the human mind loses its sense of inner peace and stability, what remains is competition, comparison, and conflict.
LOSS OF SELF-SOVEREIGNTY
At the root of many conflicts lies a simple truth: we have forgotten how to rule the self.
A person who cannot govern his own thoughts, emotions, or desires often tries to control others. A man who has mastered his senses never feels the need to dominate his partner, children, or colleagues. Similarly, a woman who understands and regulates her emotions does not impose authority over others.
True power is not the ability to rule people — it is the ability to rule the self. This self-sovereignty creates dignity, patience, and respect. When individuals lose this inner balance, they attempt to fill the gap with external control, eventually shaping national and international conflicts.
WHY PEACE TREATIES DON’T LAST
While the efforts to establish peace through treaties are important, lasting peace cannot emerge unless the root cause is addressed at the individual level. Peace agreements between nations are short-lived as even a small threat to their ‘power’ quickly ignites conflict again.
True leadership, whether in a home or in a nation, belongs to those who can first govern themselves — their body, mind, and emotions. Our responsibility as part of the human family is to restore inner sovereignty. Each human being is born a king of their own inner world. A true king does not dominate others but governs himself. Let’s not merely act powerful but be powerful in the true sense.
