Haiti records seventh death from COVID-19
PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, CMC – The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed that a 20-year-old man has become the seventh person in Haiti to die of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
It is urging the population to follow restriction measures, including the stay-at-home policy to reduce the spread of the deadly virus.
In a brief statement, the Ministry said that the man, who was from the commune of Delmas, known as the “extension” of the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, died on Wednesday.
It said he had been receiving treatment for the virus and had “heart problems as well as being overweight for his age… which complicated his case”.
Haiti has so far recorded 76 positive cases of the virus.
COVID-19 was first detected in China last December and since then has been blamed for more than 300,000 deaths and more than three million infections worldwide.
The Ministry said that four of those who have died as a result of the virus were between the ages of one to 44 years.
