Dubwise Jamaica finds home with new cafe

Global event and reggae music platform Dubwise Jamaica now has a physical home with the opening of the Dubwise Café. The space was launched last Wednesday evening at the Kaya Herbhouse in Kingston.

“The concept is around the Dubwise Jamaica brand and what that brand has signified for the reggae movement,” Dubwise Jamaica co-founder Jason Panton said. “The concept has actually morphed over time and after several convos with friends and also based on the fact that we had several successful events at Kaya, the space opened up for us to manifest that vision we had for the café.”

Established in 2013, Dubwise’s mantra has always been to serve the culture and community with music. The opening of Dubwise Jamaica represents an expansion of this with the communal space serving as a hub for the hosting of the iconic event and meeting point for reggae enthusiasts.

The Dubwise Café is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the local and international partners of The Dubwise Group.

Speaking about the relevance of the space, Carleene Samuels said, “There will always be a need for culturally inspired spaces that showcase the history and culture of reggae.”

The creative producer continued, “The Dubwise Café is another venture born from that need, and in addition to the music and atmosphere Dubwise has always provided, the café will be that permanent facilitation to taste and touch the reggae movement.”

In addition to various music-centred events that will take place over time, the mostly plant-based café is also fitted with a late lunch to dinner kitchen, with a specially curated menu courtesy of the ‘Bachelor Chef’ Shea Stewart of Elite Kreations.

The Dubwise Café is now open and will host biweekly Dubwise events.
