HMC staff member wounded in Lucea bus park
WESTERN BUREAU:
A MEMBER of staff of the Hanover Municipal Corporation (HMC) was attacked and wounded while on the job in the Lucea Transportation Centre on Thursday.
In a report from superintendent of police in charge of Hanover, Sharon Beeput, tabled at the monthly meeting of the HMC on Thursday, it was revealed that the worker, who is attached to the Commercial Services Department of the corporation, was wounded while carrying out his cleaning duties.
She also said that the police had taken into custody a person of interest in the matter.
“My concern is that this is the second time around now that our staff members of the municipal corporation have been injured within the transportation centre while at work, and it is really troublesome to us,” Lucea Mayor Sheridan Samuels said after the superintendent gave her report.
“Not that we were not paying attention before, but I think we are going to be paying more attention to that area (transportation centre), but there are some things happening there lately and we hope that we can stop them before they get worse,” Beeput stated.
Meanwhile, in giving an update on police activities within the parish, Beeput said that, since the start of the year, four murders had been committed in the parish – three in the Lucea area and one in the Green Island area.
She also noted that three firearms had also been recovered in the parish, for which three suspects are in custody.
“Just to say that, this morning (Thursday, February 10) at 1 a.m., we had a shooting and malicious destruction of property in the Kingsvale police space. We have a suspect in custody, not yet ready to call any name,” Beeput said.
She thanked the HMC and all other partners across the parish for the cooperation the police has been receiving in the parish.
