The police yesterday apprehended 29-year-old Keron ‘Piggy’ Mason, an alleged notorious serial housebreaker, following a car crash on Slipe Pen Road in Kingston.

According to reports, Mason, wanted for multiple larceny and burglary offences in the St Andrew North Police Division, was signalled to stop at a check point, but disobeyed the police. In his attempt to evade the lawmen, he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned after crashing into an embankment.

Mason, of 12 Lane White Hall, had been on the run, listed as a person of interest by police for his alleged involvement in numerous break-ins. His capture marks the culmination of a manhunt that began after several failed attempts to arrest him.

DSP Sweeney, divisional commander for St Andrew North, noted that Mason is a suspect in several break-ins, including incidents captured on CCTV footage in December.

Mason allegedly collaborated with an accomplice in some of the crimes and, on December 12, reportedly broke into an apartment on Constant Spring Road, where he tied up a woman and stole her phone and a Silver Honda HRV.

‘Brother’s keeper’

The St Andrew North Police Division has reported a rise in break-ins, with 79 incidents recorded as of December 28, 2024, compared to 63 during the similar period in 2023.

DSP Sweeney reassured the public of the police’s dedication to tackling crime and urged citizens to remain vigilant, safeguard their properties, and report suspicious activities.

“Be your brother’s keeper. Look out for your neighbours, install CCTV, report suspicious activities, activate neighbourhood watches, and avoid leaving valuables near windows,” DSP Sweeney advised.

Mason is now in the custody of the Kingston Western Police Division awaiting further legal proceedings.
