Celebrate the lives of all Christmas Day babies even of a 14-y-o

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I have seen the uproar over the story of the 14-year old girl who gave birth to twins on Christmas Day. I will never support the pregnancy of a female under 18 years old. I am also pro-life and only believe in abortion in the instances of rape and the medical threat to the mother’s life. But the babies are now in this world even though the mother is very young.

I am not defending mainstream media but for decades they always publish newborn babies on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. I don’t believe the Jamaica Gleaner was celebrating the pregnancy of a 14-year-old; they were celebrating the life of humans in this world. The article even said the young mother pledges to go back to school.

The Jamaica Gleaner deleted that article due to backlash from the Twitter mob. I am over 30 with no kids as yet so none of them (Twitter mob or the righteous ones) can lecture me about being irresponsible. I don’t see anything wrong celebrating Christmas babies!

Imagine if Christmas Day babies for this year were only birthed by a 14-year-old, should the media just carry the story without the age of the mother or don’t carry the story due to the age of the mother?
