Back to Africa – Mahama revives right of return to motherland

All this ‘back to Africa’ sentiment needs context. Is ‘Africa’ ready and waiting with open welcoming arms to embrace these dispersed diasporans? Who is going to meet us at the airport? Some continental Africans do not hold the same nostalgia for us as we seem to hold for them! - @Zemi66

I am a Jamaican who lived in Ghana for 2 years from 2009-2011, I love it there. Our cultures are inextricably linked and we have so much in common beyond our race. The Ludi Board Game and Anansi folklore comes from Ghana, they also roast yam, etc. It felt like home. It was emotional for me as an African from the Caribbean, I visited slave castles and cried. I had goose bumps. It’s not a feeling that I can fully describe. I was embraced with love from Ghanaians, everywhere I went I heard “Welcome home my brother, welcome home my son”. Writing this right now just brought happy tears to my eyes, it was so beautiful. A traditional paramount chief blessed me in a ceremony and gave me an Akan name, Kwabena. Ghana is definitely our homeland, Africa is our motherland. At least for who’s of us who are Africans in the diaspora. - @talla_wah86

This is so true. We the children of Africa in the diaspora are “a race that has been displaced by design”. And we are honoured to once again have our rightful seats at our forefathers’ table. As one of Ghana’s newest citizens I say. “Medaase paa!” - @bigmamashousellc
