Gov't committed to promoting economic opportunities for women, says PM
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is reiterating that her government is committed to putting in place policies to ensure equal opportunities for women.
According to the Prime Minister, she has been on a programme of macroeconomic policies in areas such as employment and economic activity which also serves to promote the inclusion of women.
Meanwhile, Simpson Miller says at the national level, Jamaica is working to systematically correct gender inequality.
She says rules and regulations must be changed to support women who are primary breadwinners and primary caregivers at the same time.
The Prime Minister was speaking yesterday at a seminar at the Jamaica Conference Center in Kingston under the theme: 'Women, Work, and the Jamaican Economy'.
