Communications Manager at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, says the agency will spend close to half a billion dollars on flood mitigation activities for the hurricane season.
The season runs from June 1 to November 30.
Shaw says last December, the NWA spent $140 million and in February it spent more than $130 million on drain cleaning and other activities.
According to him, the works agency is prepared for the hurricane season.
He says the NWA has identified 175 critical drains across the island which forms the core of the agency’s activities.
