GSAT agony
A 12-year-old Free Town Primary School student collapsed in tears as her name was called, and with it the unwelcome news that she was not placed at the school of her choice.
While some students squealed with delight as their names were called for such schools like Holy Childhood, St Catherine High, Clarendon College, Glenmuir High and Old Harbour High, others were inconsolable when they found out that they were placed at schools deemed to be less prestigious. The tears flowed freely even as teachers tried their best to comfort them.
"This is what I don't like about the GSAT. Too many students are traumatised. Look at them crying. I don't think any exam should do that to you," said one concerned parent.
Principal of the school, Ann Marie Brown commended the children and told them that, "You all did well."
However, that was little consolation to those who, unlike some of their peers, could find nothing to be happy about the schools where they were placed.
