Grange says the government plans to immediately implement provisions that are approved by Cabinet, but notes that this will require action from a wide cross-section of government agencies.

Minister of Gender Affairs Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange says starting in January, Cabinet will begin reviewing the National Strategic Action Plan on Gender-based Violence.

The plan includes proposals to improve the implementation of laws and support services for victims of gender violence.

It also includes provisions for the re-socialisation and rehabilitation of men who perpetrate gender violence.

Grange says the government plans to immediately implement those provisions that are approved by Cabinet, but notes that this will require action from a wide cross-section of government agencies.

She warned, however, that despite the harsh penalties that may be implemented, members of the public must start speaking up about gender violence to ensure that perpetrators are convicted and punished.
