McKenzie... dates for other by-elections will be announced for divisions with vacancies.

Voters in the Yallahs Division in the St Thomas Western constituency will go to the polls in a by-election on April 27.

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie made the announcement a short while ago at his offices in St Andrew.

Nomination Day will be on April 10.

The announcement comes days after the Supreme Court voided the election of Dean Jones as councillor for the division.

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes, who handed down the decision, had ordered that a by-election be held in the division "in the shortest possible time."

Justice Sykes found that Jones was not qualified to be a councillor because he was a civil servant at the time of the local government elections in November 2016.

In that election, Jones defeated the People's National Party's (PNP), Constantine Bogle.

The PNP had said that it would be seeking to have Bogle automatically elevated to the position as councillor by challenging Skyes' ruling.

In meantime, the minister said dates for other by-elections will be announced for divisions with vacancies.
