JTA's General Council accepts gov't wage offer
The General Council of the Jamaica Teacher’s Association (JTA) today voted to accept the government's wage offer.
The vote was held at a special meeting of the council which was convened to examine the offer.
In a statement this afternoon, the JTA said the decision to accept the offer will be communicated to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, adding that it anticipates that the Association will sign the Heads of Agreement next week.
The teachers have accepted the offer for a 16 per cent wage increase over four years.
That rate was rejected by the teachers a few months ago but the JTA says there have been improvements in the benefits offer this time round.
