Each year, thousands of spectators, young and old, flock to the National Stadium to witness the stellar performances of young athletes from all over the island in the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships.

A highlight of this year’s event was the overwhelming support from the jubilant fans. The Gleaner interviewed several of these supporters and posed the question, “What was your favourite Champs moment this year?”

Oneil Clarke

My favourite moment has to do with my daughter, Kayla-Gay Clarke. She represents St Jago, and I am a very proud parent. She came second in the 80-metre hurdles. That, essentially, represents my most favourite moment.

Nadeen Whyte

My favourite Champs moment was seeing the KC (Kingston College) flag over there crawling over and over and going around. They were the ones that started the wave. The wave came and stopped right there, and they tried again till it came around. It continued three times and never stopped.

Renaldo Savoury

My favourite Champs moment of 2019 was when I cleared four metres in the men’s pole vault and came second. I have been trying to clear that height for a long time. I just soar and go higher in every attempt and in any competition that I enter.

David Edmondson

My favourite moment of Champs was the Class One boys’ 200 metres, when my fellow teammate, Xavier Nairne, won his first gold medal at Champs, and my associate, Jeremy Farr, also won the gold medal in the 400 metres. Of course, my own event, the decathlon, winning a silver medal for myself was very important to me as well.

Ariel Richards

My favourite part of Champs was today, when during the 800-metre boys’ Class Two there was a large gap between first and second but the KC athlete ran as fast as he could and actually overtook the person in first place and won the race.

Ashsean Anderson

My favourite Champs moment is between the 200-metre finals and the 400-metre finals, but I think I will have to give the edge to the 200-metre finals because a former compatriot of mine, Jeremy Farr, destroyed a long competitor of his on the 400 metres, and it was scintillating.

Roman Parkes

Well, for me, it is the Clayton twins from Edwin Allen winning both the 100 metres and the 200 metres for Class Three girls. It is just amazing to see the rivalry between the twins. It is just so intense, and to know that both of them will not run leave each other but push each other to strive for excellence and be the best person that they can be. That is why it is my favourite moment.
