The Ministry of Education says attempts will be made to ensure that the students sitting external examinations at Seaforth High School, St Thomas are not disadvantaged as a result of Saturday’s fire.

The Ministry says the early morning fire destroyed the visual arts department and other sections including the technical drawing, cosmetology, and building technology departments which suffered water and smoke damage.

The Ministry says the School Based Assessments (SBAs) of some 28 students doing Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate were also destroyed.

It says steps will be taken to support the school in providing alternative arrangements to accommodate the visual arts students.

The Ministry points out that CXC has protocols in place for treating with students who may have been affected by the disaster.

Meanwhile, it says a team will visit the school today to obtain a more detailed report on the damage caused by the fire.
