Jamaica recorded 25 homicides to start December, murders down 18% year-on-year
There were 25 murders to start the month of December as the wanton killings and bloodshed continued across Jamaica.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force reports that as at December 7, the murder toll stood at 1,085, which is 234 fewer or an 18 per cent drop year-on-year.
Included in last week's murder statistic was the caught-on-tape brutal slaying of a policeman at a gas station Friday night.
The deceased cop has been identified as Corporal Christopher Smith, who was assigned to the Kingston Western Police Division.
Reports are that about 11 o'clock, Smith drove his private motor vehicle to the Texaco gas station on Beechwood Avenue in St Andrew, where there was an active armed robbery.
After Smith parked his vehicle, one of the gunmen pounced on the unsuspecting cop, shot him multiple times and relieved him of his firearm.
Jamaica recorded 1,060 over 11 months in 2024.
The latest figures also show that two police divisions have recorded over 100 murders, St James (120) and St Andrew South (115).
Portland has the fewest with 13 murders.
Shootings, injured persons, rape robbery and break-ins have declined year-on-year.
