Guest dies in suspected drowning at Riu hotel in Hanover
A Canadian man died Friday following a suspected drowning at the Riu Negril hotel in Hanover, just days after a similar incident occurred at another Riu resort in Trelawny.
Management at Riu Negril confirmed that Jacques Mongrain, was rescued from the sea by a lifeguard and another guest.
CPR was administered, but only a brief pulse was detected before it ceased, according to the hotel's statement. Mongrain was later pronounced dead.
The police were alerted, and Mongrain’s sister reportedly revealed that he had a pre-existing heart condition.
An autopsy is expected to be done to determine the true cause of his death.
Yesterday's incident follows Monday's drowning of three-year-old Canadian Shea Anderson in a pool at Riu Palace Aquarelle Hotel in Trelawny.
