Edwin Allen boys win Gibson McCook Relays 4x800m final after podium finishers disqualified

Edwin Allen High won the boys' 4x800m open final at the Gibson McCook Relays after a string of disqualifications saw the podium finishers stricken from the record.

The initial winner, Calabar High was disqualified due to an infraction of World Athletics' technical rule 24.19 by starting outside of the takeover zone. Kingston College, which ended third and Morant Bay High were punished for the same offence.

Jamaica College, the second-place finisher, was also disqualified for breaking technical rule 24.6 through a fault in recovering a dropped baton.

Edwin Allen, who finished fourth with 7:52.96, was upgraded to gold.

William Knibb Memorial High moved up to silver with a time of 8:01.93, while Clarendon College took bronze in 8:10.01.

The event took place at the National Stadium on Saturday.
