Gov’t to extend validity of motor vehicle fitness certificates, registration

The Government will move to implement a new system for motor vehicle fitness certificates and registration.

Contributing to the Budget Debate in Parliament today, Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness said the first certificate of fitness for new motor vehicles will be issued for five years.

For used vehicles that are under 10 years, the validity period will be three years.

For vehicles older than 10 years, the current yearly renewal will remain.

Regarding motor vehicle registration, motorists will be able to register their vehicles for up to two years.

Currently, they have the option to renew motor vehicle registration for six months or one year.
