The People's National Party (PNP) is expressing profound sadness at the passing of Wellesley Bolt, the father of Jamaica’s beloved sprint legend, Usain Bolt.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Usain and the entire Bolt family during this difficult time,” said the party is a media release on Monday.

Opposition Spokesperson on Sport, Wavell Hinds, noted the tremendous support Bolt provided in shaping Usain’s iconic career, stating, “Behind every great athlete is a foundation of love, encouragement, and unwavering belief. Wellesley Bolt was a pillar of strength for his son, who went on to inspire a nation and the world. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bolt family as they navigate this profound loss.”

PNP President and Leader of the Opposition, Mark Golding, also extended sympathies, saying, “Usain Bolt has given so much to Jamaica, and we stand with him in his time of grief. We hope that he and his family find comfort in the memories of Mr Bolt’s life and legacy.”

The PNP says it joins the nation in mourning and offers its support to Usain Bolt and his loved ones.

“May Wellesley Bolt rest in peace.”
