Two men held in St Thomas murder of St Catherine truck driver
Swift action by the St Thomas police has led to the apprehension of two men suspected of killing a St Catherine truck driver in Wheelersfield, Golden Grove, on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old Michael Small, otherwise called 'Biggs' or 'Oniel', of Orangefield district in St Catherine.
Reports are that about 6:30 p.m., Small stopped at a business establishment in the area to make a purchase when he was pounced upon by unknown assailants and shot. The attackers then escaped from the scene on a motorcycle.
Small was assisted to the Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A coordinated police operation later resulted in the interception of the motorcycle believed to have been used in the attack, with two men taken into custody.
A subsequent search led to the seizure of one M16 rifle, a .38 revolver, and assorted rounds of ammunition.
Both men are being held on suspicion of murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, and other related offences.
The Morant Bay Criminal Investigation Branch is probing the matter.
