Voting has started in the Jamaica Labour Party's internal selection in which approximately 600 delegates are choosing between two candidates to represent the party in the Westmoreland Western constituency in the upcoming general election.

Councillor Garfield James of the Sheffield division is challenging the incumbent Member of Parliament, Morland Wilson, for the seat.

According to Pearnel Charles Jr, who is observing the process in Grange Hill, voting is going well and party officials are exercising fairness and transparency.

“‘You can see the energy of the delegates that are out and I think that's all part of the democratic process,” Charles said shortly after the polls opened at noon on Sunday.

“We are hoping that through transparency and accountability, we adhere to those democratic principles which the Jamaica Labour Party holds so important,” Charles told The Gleaner.

Voting is also taking place at Little London High School where delegates from the Negril l, Little London and Sheffield divisions are casting their ballots.
