CXC prepared for close monitoring of exams amid increase in cheating
Dr Wayne Wesley, Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), says all is in place for the effective monitoring of the sitting of this year’s examinations.
“We are pleased to announce that for this 2025 examination period, over 100,000 candidates from across the region have been registered to sit more than 600,000 subject entries,” Wesley said at this morning’s press briefing.
He noted that the oral component of the modern foreign language subjects starts today.
“This will be another mammoth undertaking by CXC, but we are equal to the task. The team has worked hard to ensure that everything is in place for the successful administration of the examination,” he stressed.
The CXC reported an increase in incidents of misconduct during last year's exam season.
The irregularities included candidates bringing unauthorised cellular phones into the testing centres, engaging in outright cheating, and even impersonating other students.
There were 54 such incidents, a marked increase from the 36 cases documented in 2023, CXC's Director of Operations, Dr Nicole Manning, had disclosed.
Wesley also shared that as of January next year, all examinations administered in the January sessions will be offered electronically either as e-assessment or hybrid e-assessment.
“Institutions where candidates are unable to write their examination electronically, they will be accommodated in the May/June session where both paper based and e-assessment will be administered,” he said.
