The Government says the Chinese-operated auto repair shop at Ferry Pen, which is under investigation for possible breaches of Jamaica’s labour laws, will be allowed to reopen “in the shortest possible time” once compliance is confirmed.

The probe into Whole Hearted Company Services Limited, which operates WH Car Service, remains active, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security said in a statement on Friday.

It said any identified irregularities or breaches will be “thoroughly assessed” and sanctions applied where necessary.

“Once everything has been found to be in compliance with the law, steps will be taken to facilitate the resumption of operations under the proper conditions, in the shortest possible time,” the ministry assured, adding that it is committed to a “fair and reasonable solution.”

The repair shop, which has attracted long queues of customers and viral attention for its speedy and affordable services, was thrust into the spotlight following reports that it employs 10 Chinese mechanics.

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Jr confirmed on Thursday that the Government is examining whether all workers at the shop possess valid work permits and the necessary employment documentation.

Amid mounting interest and customer demand, the business recently capped its daily service to 30 vehicles.

Director Ming Jian Chen has denied any intention to displace local workers, saying his mechanics are meant to complement Jamaican technicians

. He also signalled interest in hiring and training locals to uplift industry standards.

The ministry said updates will continue as the investigation progresses.
