Volunteers unite to transform Oasis Children’s Home in St Thomas this Labour Day
In celebration of Labour Day 2025, Volunteers Incorporated (VI) will lead a major volunteer-driven renovation project at the Oasis Children’s Home, located in Yallahs, St Thomas. Taking place on Friday, the exercise forms part of VI’s commitment to strengthening community through purposeful service.
More than 40 volunteers, including skilled professionals and community members, will come together to repaint, repair, and install essential infrastructure at the facility – home to children with special developmental and psychosocial needs.
The day’s activities will include painting of key areas within the residence, installation of windows for safety and comfort, erection of a perimeter fence to enhance security, as well as general property cleanup and beautification.
The Oasis Children’s Home, operated under the Moira Morgan & The Griffin Charitable Trust, provides a safe haven for vulnerable children and young people in need of long-term residential care. VI, a registered charitable organisation, has worked closely with the home to identify urgent needs and mobilize community support.
Corporate partners fuel community impact
The initiative has received generous support from a number of corporate partners whose contributions have made the transformation of the facility possible. Key supporters include: Alcor Windows and Doors, which is supplying high-quality, secure window installations; Millennium Paving Limited, which is assisting with external improvements and paving works; Food For The Poor, who are providing essential supplies and logistical assistance; Salgoud Hardware, which is donating construction materials and tools; and Island Car Rentals Jamaica Limited, which is offering transportation support for volunteers and materials.
In a statement, VI said the corporate partners’ involvement exemplifies the power of public-private partnerships in driving sustainable, people-centred development.
“This project is about much more than paint and repairs,” said Davor Bailey, project president of VI. “It’s about restoring dignity, safety, and hope to the children who live here, and showing what’s possible when a community takes action together.”
