Noel Maitland bombarded my phone with calls about security camera recordings at apartment complex, neighbour testifies
Police Constable Noel Maitland is alleged to have bombarded his neighbour's phone with calls about recordings on the security camera system at their St Andrew apartment complex before asking what the plan was if the police visited the property.
Maitland is on trial in the Home Circuit Court for murder and preventing the legal burial of a corpse in connection with the July 13, 2022, disappearance of his girlfriend Donna-Lee Donaldson.
The neighbour, during his testimony this morning, said Maitland called him on July 16, asking "what's the plan".
In response, he said he told Maitland, "I'm feeling very uncomfortable about the situation," and that he was unlikely to be home.
The court heard that Maitland’s enquiry about the "plan" came after his neighbour had received several missed calls from him, some of which he had deliberately missed.
The neighbour, when asked why he had purposefully missed the calls, said," I was hesitant to speak, and at this point I was now familiar with the situation."
In response to the prosecutor's question as to how he became familiar with the situation, the neighbour said through the news media.
The neighbour previously testified that he felt pressured by Maitland to delete the recordings that his camera system had captured.
According to the witness, Maitland contacted him on July 13 and then appeared at his apartment the following day, saying that “a girl who had been at his apartment had gone missing”.
The witness said he and Maitland later viewed the recordings, which showed Maitland entering his St Andrew apartment complex twice between July 11 and 12, 2022 – once with a woman – just hours before his girlfriend, Donna-Lee Donaldson, went missing.
The witness further testified today that he later contacted a high-ranking police officer following a message from his co-worker.
He also told the court that he had made arrangements with the Independent Commission of Investigations to collect the camera system.
Donaldson, 24, a social media personality, swimwear entrepreneur, and customer service representative, was reported missing on July 13.
Her mother, Sophia Lugg, had previously testified that Maitland picked up her daughter on July 11 and that she last spoke to her on the morning of July 12.
Attempts to reach her afterwards were unsuccessful.
